I heart my Church!

I feel really blessed to have found Overlake Christian Church.  When I first moved to Washington, after a few months of searching I found OCC through a Google search.  It is huge (think shuttles in the parking lot to get you to the front door, and a full blown coffee shop in the foyer) so I was totally intimidated the first few times going in, just me - party of one.  Right away it felt obvious that the entire church body works really hard at making every person feel welcome.  There is actually a tag line on the website that states we try to be the "biggest little church on the eastside." That "little church" feeling is great - because it provides me with such a sense of community.

It has been about a year and a half now, and my Gap schedule finally allowed me to take the membership class - yippee!  Overlake has provided me with my entire social network here in Washington, and I am so grateful for the friends I have made through Bible Study, etc.

But the very best part of Overlake is Pastor Mike Howerton.  I love listening to him speak - and he is so gifted at showing how Jesus is relatable, and real cool dude.  Mike loves God, and loves to speak about His relevance for today's world, as well as show us God's perspective on the modern life that we all live.  He delights in blowing stereotypes about Christianity out of the water. Case in point - the series Mike is leading us through right now...

Jesus and Hot Topics!  This morning we talked about alcoholism, last week was pornography, of course politics will be in there, and yes...that is a picture of Oprah.  Should be interesting!  Feel free to take a listen by subscribing to OCC podcasts.....occ.org.

Thank you Mike, and thank you Overlake for the church family you have given me - I heart my church!

Lindsay, You are so great! I've always admired your religious conviction and that you actually live the life of a good, kind, selfless, Christian. Your one of the most non-judgemental people I know and are nice to everyone. Plus, you're super fun! So, a shout-out to you! By the way, you'll have to update us on the interesting topics you guys are discussing. . .

Lindsay! I found your blog! I just wanted to drop in and say hi and that I'm sad I didn't get to see you one last time before I left work today! It's been great having you as a manager at the Gap and hope to keep in touch!
